January Internship at TOPST – A Hands-On Experience with Students from Chung-Ang and Soongsil Universities

 In January 2025, TOPST had the pleasure of welcoming talented students from Chung-Ang University and Soongsil University for a month-long internship program. With a strong passion for embedded systems and robotics, these students took on practical challenges involving our core SBC products while also improving user documentation and performing real-world testing.

 

Practical Work on TOPST Boards

During the internship, the students worked hands-on with TOPST D3-G, TOPST AI-G, and TOPST VCP-G boards. They began by building the existing documentation environments, uploading them to the boards, and verifying system operation. Throughout the process, they identified and corrected errors in the documentation and made meaningful improvements to enhance clarity and usability from the end-user’s perspective.

Particularly with the TOPST VCP-G, which is highly compatible with the Arduino ecosystem, the students carried out the following tasks:

  • Verified sensor compatibility with TOPST VCP-G

  • Developed an Arduino Sensor User Guide

  • Reproduced sensor-related issues and proposed solutions

TurtleBot Integration and Execution

Another key highlight was the setup and execution of TurtleBot. Through this task, the interns gained valuable insights into how embedded platforms interact with robotic systems and sensors, experiencing the full pipeline from configuration to successful operation.

Documentation with a User-First Approach

Beyond technical testing, the students took initiative in updating product guides to ensure a better user experience. They improved clarity in wording, added missing steps, and reorganized the layout to help users follow along more easily — a crucial step in lowering the entry barrier for new developers and hobbyists.


This internship was more than just a technical exercise — it was a chance for the students to directly contribute to improving real-world products and experience the workflow of embedded system development. TOPST will continue to provide such hands-on opportunities for the next generation of innovators.
